The second avenue subway would have the potential to connect to most lines if it was well design and properly built

For some reason, my attempt to render the numbers six and seven in arrow brackets, to represent the express services of these two lines, did not register in the text as printed; herewith, my (hopeful) emendation.

Is there any way the Amtrak trackage between New Rochelle and Penn Station or, at any rate, Sunnyside can be used for commuter service? Or, is Hell Gate Bridge an objection in terms of traffic volume? It would seem re-inventing the wheel to come up with some plan that would serve the whole Borough when what you really need to do is to reduce the load factor on the existing lines by taking some of the people from Co-op City who board at Pelham Bay Park, off the train and onto the New Haven Line, which would not be stuck in traffic on the Bruckner Xway as the express buses now running often are, which is why many take the , or even take buses to Flushing to catch the . (Similarly at Parkchester as to the .) If the South Bronx Bypass is to be used, can some way be found to tie the commuter trains back in to the Metro-North at Park Av, perhaps a viaduct over the Third Av bridge? It would seem, although it flies in the face of the Daniel Burnham-like sweep of your proposals, that perhaps we SHOULD make small plans if the situation calls for it.

The Rockaway alinement that you use above, it was a good idea but the tracks coming from the fulton street extension won't be able to reach the Rockaway line in between howard Beach and to the point where the line would rise up above and plus it would be difficult unless you plan on removing the two center tracks to make room for it.

The South Bronx Bypass should be a Metro-North Line because after leaving Eastchester, it can turn east on 233 street, then go north on Boston Post Road into Westchester County and follow the Amtrak right-of-way and join the other Metro-North Lines where it meets

Honestly, nothing. I see these plans as more mental exercises. The truth is, at the speed things move now, by the time any of these projects WOULD be built the might not be needed, or different proposals needed instead. The things I propose are nothing that transit planers don't know, but they also know the reality of trying to get them built.

What is really needed is true political leadership. It was the mayor, afterall, who built the IND system. Bloomberg could have pulled more weight but he is far too much of a "free-marketer" to bother with any subway extensions that don't help out his real estate masters.

Also, much of this has to do with the feeling by people that you can't do big things anymore. This is where I think I have the most pull, by trying to inspire people that big projects are possible and if we are to build the political will then more people need to have the same optimism.

Will to the next question, what are you trying to do to get these long terms into the mass media at large. Specifically, how do you intend to get the mta to consider these ideas on a serious level? Even if it takes a hundred years, besides the blog. What's the next step ?

I guess I just don't see that many people utilizing such a service. Most people in the Bronx are traveling to Manhattan so taking them on a trip out of their way seems counter productive.

For the T train in the Bronx going to Gun Hill road, again being all hypothetical, I'm leaning that were thinking cut and cover as the method of choice? Also of note is the extension of the D to Gun Hill. Now why stop there, les continue the D as a Bronx cross town to Co Op City, this would relieve both the 5, 2 , "T" and "U." again I'm assuming cut and cover as well. My reasoning behind it besides the spreading of passenger loads and because you have so many buses and cabs bringing people back forth on gun hill. This will bring down overall traffic. Looking forward for your input, thanks again.

I was at 125th and 2nd, ur right, there's not much going on there as it's pretty much the entry point to the RFK bridge. Thanks for your input on the shuttle.

The express tracks, from 125th St to 63rd St, would be in a lower tunnel. Since the tracks from 63rd to Houston St aren't built yet I figure divine intervention will allow them built as a standard 4 track tunnel.

I don't have express trains stop at 125th St but they will stop at 116th. The reasoning is that there isn't much development at 125th (nor much room) and since Q trains will split off before the 125th St station it would make more sense to have the express/transfer down at 116th.

I hadn't really given the GC Shuttle thought. It would be hard to pull off since it would require demolition of the existing walkway. Maybe just a people mover?

All of these ideas are great with the proposed T, U, P and Y trains running on the second ave trunk in the city. However, how are they all going to fit on a two track line running all local from 138th and 125th to Queens and Brooklyn. I see that the U and P are express trains and yet they don't stop and 125th, I think that's a mistake as that should be the first stop in the city. Also that where are these two express tracks and stations coming from? Are they parallel to the current lines or at a higher or lower level? I know that this is all fictional, but your ideas are solid and well thought out, so I would like to read your thoughts on this. Thank you again. Also any proposal to extend the grand central shuttle to second ave or a passenger walkway?
